The Filmmaker Assistance Programme (FAP) is the National Film Board of Canada's long-running post-production support scheme for independent Canadian filmmakers. It operates two streams: a local reimbursement stream for productions across the country, and a Balmoral stream providing in-house services at the NFB's Montreal studios. Three application terms run each year (March, June, October) with decisions communicated within two to three weeks of each deadline.
Application tips
Music rights, animation and VFX, software licences, and archival footage licences are not covered. Applications must include a finalised post-production schedule and evidence of secured financing. Term 3 (October 10) is the final round for the 2026 cycle.
