About this opportunity
The Sundance Documentary Fund is among the most significant grant programmes for non-fiction cinema worldwide, distributing $1-2 million annually to 30-40 projects. It supports cinematic documentaries that address contemporary themes with artistic ambition and social relevance. Hybrid, animated, and experimental documentary forms are welcomed. Feature-length documentaries (52+ minutes) only; shorts, fiction, purely historical/biographical films, and NGO/educational content are not eligible.
Application tips
The application never closes and decisions occur four times per year. Your project should have secured participants or characters and be able to articulate a clear story structure or driving central question. Apply at least eight months before any anticipated premiere, as the fund cannot support post-production on films that have already screened publicly. No fiscal sponsor required. First-time filmmakers welcome.
