About this opportunity

TEAR is a free, studio-based residency programme founded by Tracey Emin at TKE Studios in Margate, Kent. Each cohort of painters spends 15 months working alongside peers and established artists, with regular group critiques, visits, and community events. The programme is specifically designed for painters at a formative point in their careers, and the 2027-28 cohort will run from April 2027 through early July 2028.

Application tips

The application uses a fixed template requiring 10 to 15 captioned images of recent paintings, a biography of up to 500 words, a CV, a 3-minute personal video, and a 3-minute sketchbook video showing 20 consecutive pages in order. Video links (Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive) must remain live through November 2026. TEAR emphasises how intense the environment is: applicants should be comfortable with peers, studio visits, and public-facing moments throughout the 15 months.
