The Firelight Media Documentary Lab is an 18-month fellowship supporting underrepresented US-based filmmakers in creating their first or second feature-length documentary. Each cohort receives substantial grants, intensive mentorship from leading documentary professionals, and a sustained support structure that is rare in the independent film landscape. The programme has nurtured some of the most important new voices in American non-fiction storytelling.

Individual Fellowships support one to six months of travel to a new or less familiar place for research, study and creative exploration, and both Film and Arts Criticism are eligible disciplines. The 2027 grant cycle also includes a six month New York Fellowship, a Graduate Fellowship and Organisation Grants.
